RECONCILIATION WEEK LONG WALK

Differences were set aside in Tamworth today, as more than 100 people braved the cold to march as one.

The Long Walk is part of National Reconciliation Week, and celebrates unity within the community.

“Tamworth is getting so big as a multicultural city, and there’s a lot of nations here, so , although we are many, we are still one, we are still Australian,” says Gomeroi Elder, Yvonne Kent.

With plenty of youngsters taking part, Yvonne says it’s important to pass the message down.

And with the walk set to become an annual event, she’s urging people to think carefully about what it means to be Australian.

“Be informed about what reconciliation and any other holidays we have off by marching like we did today, and be inspired that we’ve come such a long way.”
