A woman who hit and killed two pedestrians at an intersection in Newcaste in 2010 has been jailed for at least two years.
Karen Lee Winter maintains she blacked out moments before the incident, which claimed the lives of two respected nurses.

What is justice? A 43 year old women apparently suffers blackouts after migrane headaches since 1998. On the day the accident happens Sees a doctor who administers morphine for a headache that she apparently had for 24 hours, is advised not to drive lies and tells the medical centre there is some one in the car. Drives home and is that unwell, is able ask her neighbour to ring the doctors and say she drove her home safe and is now resting. The women who is apparently a battler as the judge said. She has cannabis readily available in the house, smokes a couple of cones and then feels she can drive back to work and in the process kills my sister Rebecca and her friend. Two good working people who had finished work for the day. She Pleads guilty doesn’t remember the accident how convenient. Tells the court how remorseful she is. But lies under oathe. Cries about her 20 year old son who is now homeless but will live her parents. What about my Rebecca’s 2 children who are now 17 and 21 without there mother forever. The rest of our family, mum without her daughter, 4 sisters and 1 brother and 12 nieces and nephews. There are a lot of battlers out there who go to work everyday to make ends meet.
