A mother and her two children are lucky to have escaped serious injury after their house caught alight on a rural property south of Lismore overnight.
Fire fighters were called to Rogerson Road in Ruthven just after 10pm.
When crews arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames, taking them more than three hours to extinguish.
The Rural Fire Service says the blaze was ignited by a child playing with matches.
They say it’s a timely reminder for home owners to keep flammable materials in a safe place and ensure their fire escape plans are up to date.
