Emergency services rushed to Bishop’s Bridge after witnesses reported seeing a red bi-plane come down in a forested area, off old Maitland Road, late this afternoon.
Rescuers using off-road vehicles have reached the crash site where they found the aircraft in flames and the pilot, thought to be the only occupant, deceased in the wreckage.
The aircraft is thought to be an aerobatics bi-plane operating from Rutherford airfield.
A command post has been set up at the gate to a private property.
