GABION WALL RECONSTRUCTION NOT A PRIORITY

Greater Taree City Council says the reconstruction of the gabion wall at Old Bar Beach is unlikely to be a priority, unless the project is solely funded by the state government.

It comes after the Old Bar Sand Replenishment Group requested council undertake works to restore the wall, estimating costs of around $40,000.

Over the past two decades the wall has felt the impact of high tides and coastal erosion, leaving wire baskets exposed.

Member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, is encouraging council to make a formal submission, which he will pass on to the state environment minister.
