Police appeal after dog allegedly assaulted by man

Police have released a description of a man they believe can assist with their inquires over an incident that took place yesterday.

 

The incident occurred around 9:50am when a dog jumped from a parked vehicle at a fast-food outlet on Cowper Street, Wallsend.

Witnesses told police that as the driver retrieved the dog, it was allegedly assaulted, before being placed back in the car.

A short time later, the driver returned to the car, and the dog was again allegedly assaulted before two members of the public intervened.

The vehicle then left the outlet and the incident was reported to officers.

The driver is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 40-50, about 170-175cm tall, of stocky build with dark hair.

He was last seen driving a red Ford Falcon utility, in the company of a dog believed to be a German shepherd.
