Newcastle Immunologist cleared of assaulting patients

Newcastle immunologist, Jeremy Coleman, has been found not guilty of assaulting a number of female patients at his surgery.

The 69-year-old was today acquitted of 13 charges, including sexual and indecent assault, following a judge-alone trial in Sydney’s Downing Centre District Court.

Prosecutors had alleged Mr Coleman inappropriately touched nine women, and conducted physical examinations on some for no medical purpose.

Today the judge found Mr Coleman did in fact have a proper medical purpose to conduct the examinations, and not a sexual one.

In 2018, he was acquitted by a jury of 50 charges following a mammoth 12-month trial in Newcastle, with jurors unable to reach a verdict on the remaining 16 counts.
13 of those were dealt with in this judge-alone trial, three were dropped.
