WEATHER UPDATE: MORE HOT WEATHER
The trend of hot north westerly winds building ahead of southerly fronts is set to continue.Today’s coastal showers will clear tomorrow. It will be sunny and warm to hot with the temperatures climbing into the high 20s and around 30 for the Hunter. On Thursday expect dangerous bushfire conditions and possible total fire bans once again with hot gusty NW winds, stronger to the south across the Greater Hunter. The next southerly comes through on Friday then it will heat back up across the weekend.
Some interesting things are also going on in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
In the northern hemisphere the jet streams have slowed and that is causing them to undulate more than normal allowing hotter air to travel further north and colder air to travel further south. At the moment in the southern hemisphere the polar jet is moving incredibly fast over the southern ocean wrapping around the the south pole causing all the fronts to pass by extremely quickly helping to create the above mentioned trend.
The equatorial jet however is struggling, it is like is broken, not travelling fluidly at all and this negating any successful transition of tropical moisture off the northern Indian Ocean into central Australia and that why the country is virtually cloud free at the moment and very dry while cooking under the unrelenting heat which continues to break records.
