Wingham bests Nabiac in RSLNSW badminton challenge

A fierce badminton tournament between former servicemen and women has culminated with a final at Wingham Showground today.

12 lower mid north coast Sub-branches were involved, part of a trial program for RSL New South Wales to get ex-servicemen back into physical activity.

After the dust quite literally settled, Wingham were crowned champions, beating Nabiac 2 sets to 1.

“Gets them out of their comfort zone and it shows younger veterans who aren’t members of the RSL we’ve got something to offer them,” Nabiac RSL Sub-branch president Arthur Chapman said.

“We do more than just advocacy we want camaraderie, commemoration so were trying to add sport and recreation,” district president for RSLNSW lower north coast Brian Willey added.

The concept is set to be rolled out across the State in 20-23.
