COAL MINE EXPANSION APPROVED

The controversial expansion of the Tarrawonga Coal Mine has been approved by the Planning Assessment Commission.
The mine, located just outside of Boggabri and operated by Whitehaven Coal, will now be allowed to produce three million tonnes of coal each year until 2030.
The expansion has caused great community unrest with environmentalists concerned about the mine’s impact on the neighbouring Leard State Forest.
