TWO BODIES FOUND IN SUBMERGED CAR AT PORT STEPHENS

Two bodies have been recovered, after a submerged car was found in Port Stephens this morning.

Emergency services were called to Soldiers Point boat ramp around 4.30 this morning, following reports of a vehicle in the water.

Officers proceeded to locate a white hatchback, fully submerged.

Initial reports suggested one person was deceased in the car however, during the operation, the bodies of both a man and woman were found inside.

The pair are yet to be formally identified.

A number of services, including Police Rescue Divers, Marine Area Command and the State Emergency Service assisted.

The Soldiers Point boat ramp remained closed for most of the day while efforts continued.

A crime scene was established and investigations into the incident are underway.
