MAN BEHIND BARS AFTER SIEGE OVERNIGHT

A man is behind bars tonight after a domestic violence-related siege east of Inverell.

Police were called to a home at Howard Road, Howell around 7.30 last night, after reports a man was making threatening phone calls to a woman.

Officers arrived at the home, set up a perimeter and negotiators got the 38-year-old to surrender at 6 o’clock this morning.

The man was taken to Inverell police station – and charged with several offences including using a carriage service to threaten to kill.

He was refused bail at Armidale local court today.
