Driver ‘devastated’ over Hunter Valley bus crash

Brett Button – the driver who allegedly caused one of the country’s worst road disasters, says he’s “devastated” and “truly, deeply sorry”.

In a statement delivered by his solicitor today, the 59 years old said “there isn’t an hour that goes by where I’m not thinking of the families that have been affected by my actions.”

Button was behind the wheel of a bus which rolled at a roundabout on Wine Country Drive in June last year, killing 10 people and injuring 25 others.

Today he appeared in Newcastle Local Court on 89 charges, including 10 counts of manslaughter.

Button remains on bail and his case will return to court in April.
