A 19 year-old man is in a serious, but stable condition, in John Hunter Hospital after being struck in the head with a plank of wood.
Last night police were called to Barton Street, in Kurri Kurri following reports of a street brawl.
Police believe the altercation started at the local sports ground.
An 18 year-old from Weston has been charged over the incident.
Police say up to 15 people were involved in the brawl.
