MAN CHARGED OVER ARMED ROBBERIES AT LAKE MACQUARIE

A man has been charged over several armed robberies at Lake Macquarie earlier this year.

Strike Force Woonooka was set up by detectives to investigate five armed robberies at service stations in the local areas between June 10 and July 31.

After extensive inquiries, investigators searched a property on Thompson Street, Belmont South yesterday, and arrested a 30-year-old man.

During the search, police took a mobile phone and kitchen knives.

The man was taken to Belmont Police Station, and charged with four counts of robbery armed with offensive weapon, and being armed with the intent commit an indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear in Belmont Local Court today.

A 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were previously arrested and charged over their alleged roles in the robberies. They remain before the courts.

Investigations are continuing.
