UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE TO AWARD FIVE EXTRA ATAR POINTS TO APPLICANTS

The University of Newcastle has reached out to prospective students ahead of their delayed HSC exams.

Professor John Fischetti wants to remind high-school graduates that an ATAR is not the be-all and end-all.

He says there’s a number of schemes that students can access, should they not get the results they hoped for.

And, that last year’s students performed just as well as previous cohorts, despite also doing their exams online.

“They certainly didn’t sign up to be a Year 12 student in a pandemic, but it’s going to be alright on the other side of this. Every option is open to them that they would hope to fulfil their dreams.”

The University of Newcastle will award five additional ATAR points to all degree applicants, to reduce some of the pressure.
