KOALAS REUNITED WITH PARK OWNERS

Five of the seven koalas and two lizards taken from Gunnedah’s Waterways Wildlife have finally been returned by the RSPCA.

The owners, Nancy and Colin Small, greeted the animals this afternoon, who spent two months undergoing veterinary treatment.

  1. The statement that “the koalas got chlamydia and diarrhoea in the transition between the zoo and Port Macquarie” is alarming. As chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease, the zoo koalas are all female, were transported separately (as quoted in previous media) then how were they to become infected? And if they got diarrhoea in the “transition” then why didnt they arrive back at the zoo with diarrhoea too? The zoo owner quoted the koalas had “other things” as well – why didnt she say what those other things were? Why are two koalas still under veterinary care at Port Macquarie – they must have been very ill to be still receiving treatment..
    RSPCA has stated they have been unable to speak because of legal reasons. The sooner this parliamentary inquiry happens the better – maybe RSPCA might be cleared of the “trial by media” that has gone on since the beginning where there has been a concerted effort to see them as guilty and hung without the truth being told. The statements from the zoo seem to change all the time – sounds like the RSPCA had plenty of reasons to go in and seize the animals.
