MAN CHARGED AFTER POLICE CHASE ACROSS HUNTER VALLEY

Police have charged a man from North Rothbury following a police chase early this morning.

The man initially accelerated away officers who were attempting a random breath test in Kurri Kurri.

Police chased the man driving a white Holden Commodore ute for over 20 kilometres, allegedly reaching speeds of 160km/hr in a 100km/hr zone.

The ute turned onto Wine Country Drive before stalling near Tuckers Lane, before the man and a woman passenger fled on foot.

Officers chased the pair and on foot and set up a perimeter.

A short time later, the police dog ‘Muttley’ located the 35-year-old man hiding in bushland on Tuckers Lane.

The North Rothbury man was arrested and taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, use vehicle in contravention of major defect notice, and three counts of unlawfully possess number plates.

He was refused bail at Cessnock Local Court today, where he was formally bail refused to reappear on Wednesday 25 August.

The woman was also arrested, however was released without charge.
