NSW PREMIER SAYS LOCKDOWN HAS BEEN ‘EFFECTIVE’, AS THE STATE RECORDS 35 NEW COVID-19 CASES

New South Wales has recorded 35 local cases of COVID-19 overnight from more than 58,000 tests.

Of these cases, 33 are linked to a known case or cluster, 20 are household contacts and 24 have been in isolation during their infectious period.

Meanwhile, seven of the cases have been infectious while in the community and two of the cases are residents of an aged care home in Baulkham Hills.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has branded the lockdown of Greater Sydney and surrounds as “effective”, saying modelling showed that cases would double or triple without it.

She did not confirm if the lockdown would end as planned on Friday or be extended.

Dr Kerry Chant has pinpointed a gathering that took place at the Meriton Suites in Waterloo on Saturday June 26 as a potential COVID spreading event.

Three cases have been linked to the party thus far. NSW Health has indicated it will be “looking intensely” at the event.

“Just a message again to younger people,” Dr Chant said.

“Can I thank the younger people again for playing their part in responding and helping us keep their loved ones safe. And their close social network.”

Five of NSW’s cases announced today were onboard a Virgin Flight that flew from the Gold Coast to Sydney on June 26.

Everybody who was on the flight was ordered into 14 days isolation, regardless of their results.

None of the five cases pose a risk to the community.
