A man is in John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition after a fight in New Lambton this morning.
Police responded to reports of an assault happening in front of the New Lambton BP service station on St James Road, just after 4:30am.
Officers from Newcastle City Police District attended the service station and established a crime scene and an investigation commenced.
The other man involved in the fight had left the scene before Police arrived.
Inquiries are continuing.
