A quarterly report from the Hunter Business Chamber reveals local businesses are struggling in a subdued economic environment.
While the Hunter is performing slightly better than the June quarter, CEO Kristen Keegan says figures are still lower than the state average.
“While sales revenues and profits are expected to improve in the next three months, Hunter businesses are indicating strong cost pressures across the region and in all sectors,” she said.
42% of Hunter businesses reported the current performance of the NSW economy was weaker than the previous quarter, along with 46% of Hunter businesses reporting a decrease sales.
But it’s not all doom and gloom, with the 40% of those surveyed expecting an increase in sales revenue with the pending Christmas shopping season.
