ADDITIONAL CHARGES LAID OVER FATAL ASSAULT IN COFFS HARBOUR

A man, charged with pushing over a 53-year-old at a Coffs Harbour pub, has now been accused of assault causing death.

Police say the victim was involved in a physical altercation at The Plantation Hotel on Saturday night, where he fell and hit his head on a concrete floor.

Two days later, emergency services found the 53-year-old dead at a unit on Korff Street.

A crime scene was set up and forensically examined.

As part of Strike Force Boodgery’s investigations, a 44-year-old man was arrested over the assault at Woolgoolga on April 13.

He was charged at Coffs Harbour Police Station with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Today, he was slapped with the additional charge of assault causing death.

He remains behind bars and will appear at Coffs Harbour Local Court next week.
