PLANS PROGRESS TO ESTABLISH PERMANENT GP SERVICE IN GUNNEDAH

Plans to establish a permanent GP service in Gunnedah are progressing.

Hunter New England Health says it’s evaluated the proposals of three interested providers.

It will meet, and discuss, respective plans with each candidate over the next fortnight before selecting a preferred option.

Negotiations could take several months to finalise.

It comes as Gunnnedah continues to grapple with a severe doctor shortage – with one GP to every 3,000 residents.
