PEDESTRIAN UPGRADES FOR SHORTLAND

A draft plan of a safer public domain in Shortland will be placed on display tomorrow, ready for community feedback.

In April 2019 and June 2020, discussions were held, highlighting pedestrian safety at Sandgate Road as a high priority issue for residents and business owners.

The new proposal includes an implementation of a 40km/hr High Pedestrian Activity Area.

Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes says the plan on exhibition addresses concerns and provides suggestions of upgraded footpaths and new furniture.

“We want to create an inviting space for locals to do their shopping and support local small business.” Cr Nelmes says.

The area will also be brightened up with art by a local mural artist
