FIRE CREWS PREVENT HOUSE FROM BEING DESTROYED

Fire crews have prevented a house from being destroyed by fire in Telarah.
Just before 9pm last night, emergency services were called to the suburb, after smoke alarms went off.
A small amount of smoke was coming from the building when they arrived.
Firefighters got inside through a window, searched the property, and found food stuffs burning, left on a stove unattended.
Crews removed the burnt food stuffs, ventilated the house and handed it back to the owner undamaged.
A Fire and Rescue spokesperson says the situation could have been a lot worse if the neighbours weren’t alerted by smoke alarms.
“Kitchen fires make up nearly 50 per cent of all residential fires responded to, with a flame or heat source left unattended being the most common contributing cause. This makes kitchen fires the largest single cause of house fires in New South Wales.
“Remember to keep looking when cooking, and regularly check any smoke alarms in the house.”
