COVID tracing via Byron Bay’s sewage system hasn’t been available for the past three weeks due to collection errors.
The local health district confirming the shire council mistakenly froze samples which means they can’t be analysed for virus fragments by New South Wales Health.
“There’s nothing to indicate that we have an active COVID within our community at this point but there’s no reason to expect that could not change,” Chief Executive of the Northern NSW LHD, Wayne Jones, said.
A new sample has since been collected.
