CRIME FIGURES SHOW FRAUD INCREASING

Figures released by the Bureau of Crime Statistics  show a rise in the number of fraud offences committed throughout the Northern Rivers. Over the last twelve months, fraud cases have risen around 36 percent in the Richmond-Tweed, jumping from from 949 to 1294 in the last financial year. The figures come as police warn residents of an increase in phone and internet scams. (VISION ONLY)

POLICE RECOVER PROPERTY STOLEN FROM SCHOOLS, COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES IN NORTHERN RIVERS

Police have laid more than 60 charges in relation to a string of break and enters targeting commercial properties in the Northern Rivers. Strike Force Koraus was formed in June this year, to investigate numerous break and enters in the region. As a result of their ongoing investigations, police have charged six people after search warrants were carried out in Lismore and Goonellabah. Police recovered computers and e-tablets, allegedly stolen from a public school in Clunes, as well as camping equipment, tools, coin collections and sporting equipment taken from the Goonellabah area Four men and one woman were initally arrested and charged, while another man, a 24-year-old man from East Lismore, was arrested yesterday in relation to the investigation.

COMMUNITY GROUPS BENEFIT FROM CLUBGRANTS INITIATIVE

Alstonville Community Preschool and Ballina’s Hope Haven are among 100 community groups to receive a share of almost $400,000. Ballina RSL has donated the funds as part of its ClubGRANTS initiative, which supports local organisations, sporting groups and charities. “They do some great things, we’re happy to be able to support them financially, and it’s about connecting them with each other and recognising what they do as so important for our community.” Over the past ten years, Ballina RSL has given almost $4-million in cash and in-kind donations. WOMAN WANTED OVER THREE OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

Police are on the lookout for a woman, wanted on outstanding warrants, who is believed to frequent the Northern Rivers region. 23-year-old Mihayla Hogan is wanted in relation to three warrants for alleged drug offences. She’s described as approximately 165 to 175 centimetres tall, of medium build, and is believed to frequent the Casino and Tweed areas. Anyone who knows of her whereabouts is urged to contact police.
