MOREPTH DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION WITHDRAWN, FARLEY CREMATORIUM UNDECIDED

Developer Hilton Grugeon has withdrawn plans to build more than 100 affordable homes at Morpeth, hours before Maitland Council was due to make a decision on the project.

“The developer probably realised that the council recommendation was for refusal, so the Council officer has assessed the development and decided there was inadequate information and it was unsuitable for the site.” – Heather Berry, Morpeth resident.

Meanwhile, councillors will vote on the construction of a crematorium at Farley, amid concerns from residents.

“To put something of that chemical toxicity with no buffer zones, so close to our community, where we rely on the land, I think it’s outrageous.” – Dana Bright, Farley resident.
