MEMBER FOR TAMWORTH WEIGHS IN ON KOALA POLICY DEBACLE

Member for Tamworth, Kevin Anderson, maintains Deputy Premier John Barilaro has his support.

Mr Anderson says he’s concerned about what the Koala SEPP means for the hundreds of farmers that live in Gunnedah – the world’s koala capital.

He says the issue needs to be addressed, despite Mr Barilaro backing down on cross-bench threats this morning.

“Our farmers have been living with koalas, when you talk about sustainable land management and protecting it for the future generations, our farmers are the best at it. So, I don’t believe that we can have someone sitting high up, telling us how to manage our country.”

Mr Anderson says he signed off on the Koala Habitat SEPP – while under the impression that the conditions would be further discussed.
