MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING MAN WITH TOMAHAWK

A 39-year-old man has allegedly threatened a man with a tomahawk in Newcastle overnight.

Just before 8pm yesterday, the man allegedly became involved in a verbal altercation with a man on Sandgate Road, Shortland.

The 39-year-old left and returned allegedly with a tomahawk and confronted the man.

Police arrested the man at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was charged with affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
