ADF TRAINING IN NEWCASTLE OVERNIGHT

Did you hear military helicopters hovering over your home last night?

The Australian Defence Force was conducting military training with its Army MRH-90 Taipan helicopters.

The ADF say the activity was part of a routine training drill, though it wasn’t able to provide any more detail.

It says locals should not be alarmed by the presence of the Army.

Australian Army officer Colonel Brett Chaloner said ADF officers are glad to be in the region.

“Defence does not get the opportunity to train in the Newcastle region very often,” Colonel Chaloner said.

“We are looking forward to using some of the facilities in the area, to assist our helicopter crews and personnel continue to build our world-class military capability.

“We acknowledge these activities may result in some noise disturbance for Newcastle residents, but it is essential to provide ADF personnel with realistic training environments,” Colonel Chaloner said.

“I would like to thank the people of the Newcastle for welcoming us into their community,” Colonel Chaloner said.
