WEEKEND WEATHER UPDATE: WINTER IS OVER

Only once in a blue moon will a Winter end like this. Friday nights full moon was the second for the month of August and that made it a blue moon.

Like every weekend in August the first for September and Spring will begin under chilly conditions with another blast of cold polar air surging in overnight.

It is a dry change but a few showers could skim the exposed coast from Newcastle to Seal Rocks including Nelson Bay.

Conditions on the water south of Coffs won’t be friendly thanks to the strong cold winds and increased swell. Good news for surfers with a new southerly swell on the way.

Fathers Day is looking pretty good.

It will be a cold start but the winds will ease and there will be lots of sunshine. The week of Spring will set the precedent as it warms up each day under mostly sunny skies.

  1. It is an undisputed fact that the none too bright will always have a future in television. As Jane Goldsmith said tonight (Saturday, 1st September, 2012, “First day of spring brought plenty of sunshine, but it still felt a bit like winter…………….”) The reason it “still felt like winter” is because it still is winter. For some inane reason, television people cannot fathom when Winter/Summer/Spring/Autumn commences. I think it is because media experts cannot spell Solstice nor Equinox. It doesn’t, never has, and never will, commence on the first day of the month. I’ll type this slowly, so that even a television know “personality” can understand. Winter and summer commence on the winter and summer solstices. I’ll wait for that to sink in. No, I haven’t got that much time to spare. Spring and Autumn commence on the Spring and Autumn equinoxes, these usually occur around the 20th of the months applicable ie. Solstices. around 20th of December and June, Equinoxes around 20th of April and September.

Next time I’ll attempt to teach you how to tell the time. I don’t want to hurt your brain with too much information in one hit.
