WORK COMMENCES ON SINGLETON’S ANIMAL MANAGEMENT FACILITY

Excavation works have begun at Singleton’s new animal management facility.

The $1.415 million project will include 16 dog pens and a large quarantine area.

Singleton Shire Council says animal welfare and environmental sustainability are at the forefront of the facility’s design.

“Care was taken in the design phase to ensure the new facility would exceed the latest animal welfare code of practice with consideration and implementation of animal handlers’ requirements,” Mark Ihlein, Council’s Director Planning and Infrastructure Services said.

The design also encourages air flow, to better accommodate the animals during the warmer months.

“The building also uses solar power, rainwater and wastewater reuse.”

Construction at the Fern Gully facility is expected to be complete by mid-November.
