EMOTIONS BOIL OVER AT FATAL CRASH COURT

A 37 year old Cessnock woman will spend at least eight years in jail over a horrific car crash that killed two teenagers.

Belinda Duncan was sentenced to 12 and a half years in jail with a non-parole period of eight years. She pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter and three charges of dangerous driving causing
grievous bodily harm.

13 year old Jayde Duncan and 15 year old Cassandra Ford were killed when a car being driven by Duncan, left the road travelling around 200 kilometres an hour, hit trees, broke in two and caught on fire. Two other teenagers who were in the car were severely injured.

Family members expressed their anger through an emotional outburst at the East Maitland court over what they saw as a lenient sentence.

  1. im thinkin of u Kara and everyone else for that matter…..this is Pathetic it really is…..not only has this woman been walkin free for 16 months but she only gets 8 yrs this is a joke….if a person was to break into your house and äccidently “kill your kids this is all they would get….. the justice system is a joke and i cant see how she only gotn this long…. she killed 2 mamed 3 other (including the first comment) aka her own step daughter, is showing NO remorse whatsoever. this country is rooted right now 🙁 .

  2. This is’nt fair one bit,’cassie’ & ‘Jayde’ lost their lives & I read that ‘kara’ & ‘brad’ lost there legs and broke a large amount of bones, I hear kara’s injuries were alot more severe then brads & that she had lost more of her leg then he. I think she is a fighter and many people are proud of her recovery, I am disgusted in the amount of jail time Belinda Duncan (the driver/murderer) received, should of been atleast 25 years ATLEAST. I think she knew that she was well and trueley going over the speed limit she was going 200km/h. I also praise the man that pulled Kara Duncan out of the crash otherwise she would not be alive today.

  3. She would have got life with out parole and spend the rest of her life in jail.. people like that should rot in hell.. what she has done is unforgivable.. yes our justice system really sux they should change our laws and be more like other USA..

  4. I knew the driver many years ago and was astounded that she could have EVER been so irresponsible, with lives that are so precious. Our justice system needs a good shake up. People have been given lengthier sentences for much lesser crimes. She really should spend at least 50yrs years for taking lives so young and for the anguish that she has put those poor families though. I really do hope that they are able to try and find at least some peace in the future.

  5. 25 years would not have been enough to satisfy the families of the victims but 8-12 years is a standard sentence in Australia for something like this where the defendant has not formed an intent to kill. It was an accident and therefore she cannot be sentenced as if she were a murderer with the view to deliberately kill someone. I hope everyone involved in the accident and the families of the victims get some closure from her sentence and can move on with their lives.

  6. What a joke our justice system is… when will something be done to overhaul the system? my heart goes out to all the family and friends.. My ex got 2 yrs 3mths for soliciting and paying an undercover to have me murdered in front of our children. so when is the bloody justice system going to here the victims instead of the crims?

  7. i dont even know how to express my love and respect for kara and her loved ones…kara you are amazing and i am proud to know you…..chin up blossom……never give up….you guys are always in my thoughts xxxxxxx

  8. How can you say it was not murder.. A car is a weapon & driving at the speed she was doing was bound to have consequences! It’s like holding a gun to someone, if you pull the trigger it’s going to fire!
The poor families of all victims got life so should of she!
The worse thing is that its not setting an example for the young ones that do use cars as weapons…

  9. This is a ridiculous sentence. We need to make a noise about it. Loudly. Don’t just post here and go away. Talk to your member, email him. Write to your paper, complain loudly – make someone hear. Talk to someone that can change it. The more noise we make the better. This woman got too many things wrong, she does not deserve a second chance in eight years! How can anyone pretty this up enough that a judge can say she has good character!!?? That is laughable!

I have written my letters to my members – have you?

Make a noise folks, because this is not right.

  10. She was not of good character at all. She was a liar, a thief, a fake and a master manipulator and that is what she has done here, manipulated the system to her advantage. And they are my first hand accounts of her. She has been a terrible driver for many years now and the car was not even registered. Moreover this isn’t the first accident that she has had. I will be writing to my member also. Belinda cannot say it was an accident when she was doing those speeds, anyone with even the remotest amount of common sense knows that those speeds cannot be controlled on country roads. Let’s hope that Karma steps in here and doesn’t allow her to get off so easily.
