HUNTER DRIVER CHARGED OVER SPEEDING, MID RANGE DRINK DRIVING

A Hunter man has been charged after allegedly speeding while he was twice the legal blood alcohol limit over the weekend.

Police were stationed on the New England Highway at Lower Belford just before 10pm last Friday, when they detected a ute allegedly travelling 150 kilometres an hour in a 100km/h zone.

Officers stopped the Nissan Navara, and the 23-year-old male driver returned a positive reading on a breath test.

He was arrested and taken to Singleton Police Station, where it’s alleged he returned a reading of 0.107.

The man’s licence was suspended on the spot, and his vehicle’s registration was cancelled.

He’ll appear at Singleton Local Court on September 17.
