MOREE MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY PUBLISHING CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL ONLINE

A man will face Tamworth Local Court today after he allegedly posted child abuse material online.

In April, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crime Squad’s Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) began engaging with the man from the state’s north.

Police allege the man believed he was talking with an 11-year-old girl and engaged in sexually explicit conversations about acts he wished to perform on the child in the presence of another.

Following extensive investigations, Strike Force Trawler detectives executed a search warrant at a home at Moree about 9am on Thursday (28 May 2020), and seized a laptop computer.

A 47-year-old man was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station, and charged with use carriage service to transmit/publish/promote child abuse.

He appeared at Tamworth Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today.

Anyone with concerns about the suspected abuse or exploitation of children should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
