Sandvik has announced the closure of its Hard Materials facility at Mayfield with the loss of 26 jobs.
The plant supplies cemented carbide for drilling and cutting applications in the mining and engineering industries.
A further 43 jobs will be made redundant at Sandvik’s manufacturing and distribution centre at Heatherbrae.
This follows layoffs at the plant late last year and according to Sandvik reflects a downturn in orders from the coal industry.
