MAN CHARGED WITH HIGH RANGE DRINK DRIVING IN MUSWELLBROOK

A man’s been charged with the high range drink driving and assaulting police in Muswellbrook.

At around 4.15pm yesterday, officers noticed a Holden Commodore stopped in the middle of the road on the Pacific Way.

As police approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly sped off, before stopping on Tobruk Avenue.

The 42-year-old man was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive reading, before being arrested and taken to Muswellbrook Police Station.

He allegedly returned a breath analysis reading of 0.274.

Police will allege in court the man claimed he had COVID-19 and intentionally coughed at the police officer when he was asked to submit to a breath test.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court on Monday 6 April 2020.
