The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Hunter, Mid North Coast and North West.
The regions can expect heavy rainfall or large hailstones, which may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours.
Towns and cities likely to be affected include Scone, Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Tamworth, Walcha, Uralla, Emmaville, Tingha, Bundarra, Quirindi and Bendemeer.
Emergency services are advising anyone in these areas to move cars under cover, avoid creeks and drains and stay indoors.
