Hundreds across the Hunter came together for the race that stops the nation today.

The Melbourne Cup was shown at several Newcastle venues including The Edwards Bar and Queens Wharf Hotel.
Lunch and pig races were held at Lindemans Ben Ean Winery in Pokolbin.
Dozens participated in ‘Nup to the Cup’ at Islington Park, giving love to furry friends from Dog Rescue Newcastle.
People also protested outside the Queens Wharf Hotel in favour of changing the racing industry’s monitoring of former race horses.
