HARRINGTON FIRE BURNS THROUGH HUNDREDS OF HECTARES

UPDATE | The fire has been upgraded to a Watch and Act

A fire burning on the Mid North Coast is being controlled after it reached emergency level early this morning.

Harrington Road was closed at around 3 o’clock, when winds picked up and the fire came near homes in the area and a caravan park which was evacuated.

The fire was downgraded to advice level just after 6am, but residents are advised to continue monitoring the situation.

It’s burned through more than a thousand hectares so far.

With north-easterly winds expected to reach almost 30 kilometres an hour today, crews are keeping a close eye on the Pacific Highway and Coopernook.
