Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen has called on the Water Minister to build a new dam near Murrurundi, to help drought-proof the region.
The proposed dam would hold more than 450 gigalitres of water and be built near the Camerons Gorge Nature Reserve.
It’s expected construction would cost almost $900-million.
It would be the first dam built in the region for almost 40 years.
