GUNNEDAH TRAIN LINE TO MOVE

The Federal Member for New England today met with Australian Rail Track Corporation representatives to discuss a better layout for Gunnedah’s railway line.

Barnaby Joyce says it’s important to move the coal trains away from the platform.

“There’ll be an investment in making the line go basically past the passenger platform at Gunnedah, it’ll also involve resuming some of the bank on the other side.”

A necessary move given the bulk commodity coal movements going through the town- which can be up to 80 carriages at a time.

“We don’t particularly want them going at 60 kilometres an hour past the passenger terminal, with mums and dads and kids on it so if we can move the trians away, we make it safer.”
