MAN CHARGED OVER ATTEMPTED CARJACKING FOLLOWING SALT ASH CRASH

A 27-year-old Windale man has been charged after attempting to steal a Good Samaritan’s car, when he stopped to assist people involved in a car crash.

Two cars collided on Nelson Bay Road at Salt Ash on Monday morning, and a passerby pulled over to help the passengers out.

A male driver from one of the cars involved, then allegedly attempted to steal the car belonging to the man assisting.

Luckily, the man was able to retrieve his keys, before the culprit fled the scene on foot into nearby bushland.

A day later, police found the accused, after stopping a taxi travelling on Richardson Road in Raymond Terrace.

He was charged with nine offences, including negligent driving and the attempted stealing of a vehicle.

He was refused bail, and will appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court on June 11.
