The trial for Dane Cordner, the older brother of Australian skipper Boyd, has been set for August 26 at Newcastle Local Court.

Cordner pleaded not guilty to assaulting Knights player Jacob Saifiti in January this year.

He was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm after the alleged fight with 22-year-old Saifiti outside the Greenroof Hotel in Hamilton, on December 2, 2018.

It was revealed in court today, more than 30 witnesses will give evidence.

Cordner’s lawyer Tendayi Chivunga requested five days for the trial however, Magistrate Eckhold has allowed only four, saying “time is a valuable resource” in the courts.

There is extensive CCTV footage from the Greenroof Hotel that will be a pivotal piece of evidence in the trial.
