Jets men’s coach Ernie Merrick believes Joey Champness and Angus Thurgate were Newcastle’s two best players against Brisbane – and it turns out, plenty of people agreed.
The two young guns were today selected in midfield in the A-League’s Team of the Week.
Starting just his second game, Thurgate made the most passes and interceptions for Newcastle, while Champness scored twice and set up Roy O’Donovan’s opening goal.
