Gloucester councillors have today resolved to move forward with an agreement with AGL, which will see a series of independent water studies carried out to test the potential impact of CSG activities.
They include a basin-wide survey, a flood study and produced water study, as well as the employment of a full time water scientist for 18 months.
AGL’s current water surveys will also be peer-reviewed.
The studies will be funded by the energy company, but overseen by council.
The formal agreement will be signed by both parties in the coming weeks.
