EMERGENCY BLAZES IN NORTHERN NSW: TINGHA & TABULAM

UPDATE 2:30PM WEDNESDAY: Both the Tingha and Tabulam blazes remain at EMERGENCY level. Linton upgraded to WATCH AND ACT.

Here’s the latest update from the Rural Fire Service:

TINGHA

The fire is spreading quickly under strong and gusty winds.

The fire is spreading in multiple directions and there is an immediate threat to lives and properties.

The fire has crossed Howell Road is a moving in a southerly direction. The fire has also crossed Old Mill Road and is moving in an easterly direction towards Guyra Road.

Emergency Alert telephone warning messages are being sent to telephones in the area. Be aware that telephone coverage may be affected by the fire activity.

  • Tingha Township – If you are in the area of Tingha township, including in the areas of Hospital Flat Road, Copes Creek Road and to the north-east of Tingha, seek shelter if the fire reaches your location. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Guyra Road and New Valley Road will be closed, meaning no access to or from Tingha.
  • Howell Road area – If you are in the area south of Howell Road or along Grove Road, Kempton Road or Thunderbolts Way, seek shelter if the fire reaches your location. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • Old Mill area – If you are in the area of Old Mill, the fire is burning close to properties. If the fire reaches your property, seek shelter and protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

If you live in the area but are away from your property, it may not be safe to return. Roads may be cut or closed without notice.

Thunderbolts Way / Bundarra Road is closed.

An evacuation centre has been established at the Bundarra School of Arts Hall on Bendemeer Street.

TABULAM

Strengthening winds has pushed the fire across Timbarra River, in the direction of Ogilvie Drive.

Emergency Alert text and phone messages have been sent to people in the area around Ogilvie Drive.

Crews are working to protect properties in the area. Firefighters will be supported by waterboming aircraft today.

There are reports of structural losses in the area. Building Impact Assessment teams will be on the fire ground today to assess losses.

If you are in the Ogilvie Drive area and your path is clear and you’re not prepared, leave now to the south along Plains Station Road.

If you are in the area of Old Bruxner Road and Paddys Flat Road put your Bush Fire Survival Plan into action. If you do not have a Bush Fire Survival Plan, know what you will do if the fire threatens your property.

WATCH AND ACT

LINTON

Current Situation

The fire is burning in the area of Linton and Warrabah.

Deteriorating weather conditions and strong north-westerly winds have seen an increase in fire activity this afternoon. The fire is moving in a southerly direction and has crossed Warrabah Road.

A number of isolated properties may come under threat, however firefighters are being positioned to protect properties as required.

Power is currently out to Kingstown and surrounding immediate areas. Essential Energy is working to rectify this.

Advice

If you are in the area, monitor the situation closely and follow advice from firefighters on the ground.

Review and implement your Bush Fire Survival Plan. If you do not have a plan, ensure you know what you will do if conditions change.

Crews will be conducting doorknocks in the area. A community meeting is scheduled for 6:00pm at the Public Hall, Kingstown.

WALLANGARRA

Current Situation

The fire is burning in the area of Jennings, approximately two kilometres north of Tenterfield.

Worsening conditions have resulted in increased fire activity.

Advice

There is a number of isolated properties along Mount Lindesay Road and to the west of the Bruxner Highway which may come under threat today.

If you are in the area, monitor conditions and ensure you know what you will do if the fire reaches your property or location.

If your plan is to leave, or you are not prepared, leave early.
