Police believe a man may have been hitchhiking between Aberdeen and Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley, when he was hit by a car and killed this morning.
Emergency services were called to the New England Highway south of Aberdeen just after 4:30am.
They found a man had suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene.
The 18-year-old woman driving the car was not injured, but was to hospital to be treated for shock and undergo mandatory testing.
Police are appealing for information to help identify the man, as well as anyone who may have seen him around 4:30am to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
