LIZ PLUIMERS CLAIMS HER THIRD IRONWOMAN CROWN

Gold Coaster Liz Pluimers has claimed her third national ironwoman title, thanks to an emphatic win in today’s final round in Newcastle.
Pluimers only needed to survive the elimination races, but ended up dominating her rivals.
“Just to finish on a high like that, come away with a series win and the win for the round, unbelievable.”
Mooloolaba’s Ali Day was in the box seat in the ironman after finishing second yesterday behind Matt Poole.
Today it was Shannon Eckstein who took top spot, but another second was enough to give Day his first national title.
“If I get to inspire a few kids out there to do this sport that’s the goal but to win this it’s a day I’ll never forget.”
“It’s awesome to race him, hopefully I’ll be back next year to give it a crack.”
